Whats the ACF all about?
The ACF is all about helping 13-18 year olds to learn new skills and improve themselves in many different ways. It is an opportunity for young people to get a taste of the army life, as well as allow them to stretch themselves away from school and to find out how much they can achieve and have lots of fun in the process
Detachments meet twice a week to train on skills that include first aid, skill at arms, shooting, fieldcraft, map and compass, physical training, drill and expedition training. Potential cadets parade for a number of weeks to allow them to see if they really fancy having a go with the ACF.
Training starts immediately after joining and you will find yourself on the way to achieving your first badge. Initial training takes place at your detachment, out in the country or at camps and training centres.
The highlight of cadet training is Annual Camp. This is a two week camp based in the UK (see our photos of Annual 2007 under Recent Activities).
During your time in the cadets you can also gain other qualification including Duke of Edinburgh Award, Btec qualifications and First Aid qualifications.
